Leaders during World War 2
Adolf Hitler:
Created the Nazi Party and controlled Germany in 1928. Hitler did try to overthrow the government and was put into jail for it. In jail he wrote the book Mein Kampf (my struggle). Later their was an election and Germany needed a leader badly, Hitler a very persuading speaker got people to vote for him. He started the war when he invaded Poland trying to split it with Russia. Hitler blamed all the Jews for the depression of Germany. At the end of the war when the allied powers came into Europe, Hitler killed himself instead of being captured by the US, Britain and Russia.
Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was the dictator and ruled over the Soviet Union. At first the Soviet Union was known as a peasant society. Stalin transformed it into an industrial and military superpower. Millions of Stalin's people died during his brutal reign. Born into poverty, Stalin became involved in a lot of criminal activities, as a young man. Stalin outmaneuvered his rivals for control of the party. Stalin aligned with the United States and Britain in World War II but afterward engaged in an increasingly tense relationship with the West known as the Cold War.
Franklin D Roosevelt
Franklin Roosevelt signed a declaration of war against Japan. He lead the United States through the Great Depression and World War II. FDR lead the US through one of the most consequential periods in history. Under Roosevelt's leadership, the nation rebounded from the devastating surprise attack at Pearl Harbor in December 1941, to the main battles that he won from fighting with the allied troops.
Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill served as the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. He led Britain's fight against Nazi Germany and declared the start of World War II when Germany invaded Poland. Churchill gave many stirring speeches to boost national morale during the war.
Benito Mussolini:
Mussolini wanted Italian social movements to occur throughout Switzerland where he relocated instead of working in the Military. He was thrown in jail for this movement and spreading propaganda. After he created the socialist party he slowly moved toward a dictator route. He changed education and laws to his own way and became a fascist. During the start of the war he looked up to Hitler and supported him. By 1945 Mussolini escaped, he was later found and shot by the allied countries.
Hideki Tojo
Hideki Tojo was prime minister for Japan through much of World War II and was later executed as a war criminal. In the 1930s, Hideki Tojo lead Japanese forces to occupy Manchuria. He urged an alliance with Germany and Italy against the Allied forces. Tojo ordered a surprise attack on U.S. naval forces in Hawaii. The attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war he attempted suicide by shooting himself in the chest, but he was found by American soldiers and his life was saved. He was tried by a post-war military tribunal, which then he was executed by hanging on 23 December 1948.
